There…Amazing Grace Extended

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” (Luke 2: 8-15)

There…Amazing Grace Extended

There before them in a manger,
There…The Truth revealed in time…
There… Eternal Life¹ incarnate,
Son of God and man sublime.

There… the angels praised in Glory,
There… the wise men saw The Light…
There... lay Jesus, Second Adam²,
There…the Son who chased night.

There…this child, the Seed of woman³,
There…the shepherds quaked in awe.
There… the servant-King long-promised
Whom the prophets all foresaw⁴.

There… Amazing Grace extended,
There in Bethlehem He lay….
Bread of Life born to be broken⁵,
Wine poured out….the narrow Way⁶.

There…the perfect Lamb unblemished⁷,
There…The Word in flesh appeared⁸,
There…The Father’s will accomplished,
There…The Gift the devil feared.

There…the mourning would find comfort⁹,
There…the poor in spirit sing¹⁰,
There…The Life and Resurrection,
Blessed Hope¹¹,… soon coming King.
