Did the Mourning Dawn Upon You?

“Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
—John 4: 13-14

“ Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”
—John 7: 37-38

Did the Mourning Dawn Upon You?

Did you taste the Living Water?
Did He find you at the well1?
Did He lift you out of darkness?
Did He break the devil’s spell?

Did you gaze into the mirror
That He held before you there?
Did He know your darkest secrets?
Was the truth too much to bear?

Did God’s Holy Law convict you?
Were you shown the sin within?
Were you slain upon your knees, sir?
Were you somehow born again?

Did the revelation startle?
Was your wicked heart revealed?
Did the Gift of God instruct you?
By his Spirit were you sealed?

Did the Sword of Truth cut deeply?
To his Grace were you attuned?
Did the mourning dawn upon you2?
Did He hide you in His wound?

Did He find you poor in spirit3?
Did He move you heart and soul?
Did the Shepherd finally find you?
Did He add you to the fold4?

“Behold, God is my salvation
I will trust and not be afraid;
For the Lord God is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation.”
Therefore you will joyously draw water
From the springs of salvation.”
—Isaiah 12: 2-3

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.”
