I read recently how certain scientists believe that maybe they are beginning to understand how inanimate (ie. dead) matter was able to turn itself into living matter, The explanation was (understandably and predictably) quite vague, but it had to do with the discovery that certain microscopic entities, dead microscopic entities, (pre-sub-components of soon-to-be RNA/DNA) were able to educate and then self-replicate themselves in a sorta/kinda natural, undirected and accidental way. Hmmm, I thought to myself. “Self”-replicate?

Information/intelligence from.....?And, besides, I wondered, where did this pre-biotic “how-to-information” come from?

And how, does dead stuff assimilate this “how to” information?

And then, I wondered further...What could possibly have possessed the dead stuff to want to “kick-start” itself into striving to become alive in the first place?

As I pondered these things, the story of Rumplestiltskin came to mind, and I recalled what the crafty and malicious imp said to the distraught and despairing princess:

"What will you give me to spin this straw into gold?"

The spirit of alchemy (and temptation) is alive and well in the 21st century. The Magnum Opus is still the Magnum Opus. The quest for the “philosopher's stone” is as persistent and pervasive in the heart of man today as it has ever been.

And the fool still says in his heart "There is no God!". (Psalm 14: 1) 

The alchemists of Humanism/Scientism will not rest, apparently, until they achieve their proud and pernicious goal,... that is, the discovery of an altogether empty-Minded creation. They've been sitting at this particular metaphysical spinning wheel for a long, long time.

The sorcerer's delusion casts a mighty spell, indeed. (And that “rest” that the alchemists long for, I'm sure they will not find.)
