God is Nuthin' Now But Trouble

Tom Graffagnino in CS Lewis, idolatry, pride

“The ancient man approached God (or even the gods) as the accused person approaches his judge. For the modern man the roles are reversed. He is the judge: God is in the dock. He is quite a kindly judge: if God should have a reasonable defence for being the god who permits war, poverty and disease, he is ready to listen to it. The trial may even end in God’s acquittal. But the important thing is that Man is on the Bench and God in the Dock.”

- C.S. Lewis

God is Nuthin' Now But Trouble

Sir, your “Bible-God”’s a nuisance..

And we’re here to set things straight.

Look, his thoughts we find offensive,

And his ways are out of date!

We are here to proudly tell you

That we voted… and He’s out!

We’ve got PhDs for back-up

And Big Brother for the clout..

God is nuthin’now but trouble…

In our ointment, God’s a fly.

God is GUILTY, and that’s final!

This today we can’t deny.

That’s the verdict we’ve come up with.

We’ll just wash our hands of Him…

That’s the truth that we’ve come up with.

This God’s better off condemned.
