dys·pho·ri·a...disˈfôrēə/, noun
a state of unease or generalized dissatisfaction with life.

There seems to be a pervasive spiritual dis-ease in the world today. The once solid ground of purpose and meaning, truth and virtue often seems to be shifting and quaking and giving way beneath us.

Learned secular scholars are more and more convinced that nothing really is for sure.

The traditions of our forefathers that have been passed down to us are increasingly dismissed as not only out-of-date, but also “unfair”, unenlightened, and ultimately detrimental to our constantly changing ideas of “Progress”.

We have come to believe that our good intentions, our frantic religious good works, and political efforts, in tandem with our ever-expanding worldly wisdom, scientific knowledge and breathtakingly fast-advancing technologies will somehow,…someday….someway “save” us and give us peace. But, alas, then...the landscape shifts again.

Spiritual dysphoria……

There’s always one more straw to grasp at in this world that “Progress” built..

There is nothing new under the sun.

Like a Brook We Babylon

We’re The Wandering Dysphorics
Seeking solace in “What’s New”...
Watch us celebrate confusion.
We demand you do it, too!

We embrace each pluralism
That comes promising along,
Who we wannabe’s unsettled.
Who we oughta be is wrong.

This Postmodern Pilate Program
Has no limit…Knows no shame.
Yes, autonomy's our idol.
Truth aversion’s still our game.

“No Commandments!” we’re demanding,
Unrestrained is what we crave.
We’ve moved WAY past “double-minded”
Tossed on each “progressive” wave.

On this down slope ever-steeper,
There's a slide that can't be stopped.
Every “truth” is now judged “fluid”,
Our pretensions can’t be topped.

We’re no longer into “Anchors”,
Cornerstones have all been banned.
Our foundations?.... Deconstructed...
We build castles in the sand.

We’re just “goin’ with the flow”, man…
What was “real” has come and gone.
Yes, we’ve washed away tradition,
Like a brook, we Babylon.

Father, help us see the light soon,
Give us Grace to turn around.
Help us recognize we’re lost, Lord,
So at last we may be found.

Help us find our way to Calv’ry…
Help us see the sin we’re in.
Grant us, Lord, Divine Redemption,
So we may be born again.

"But God so loved the world...."

“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”
—C.S. Lewis
